Is a Tax Deduction for Your Home Based Business Right for You?
Sometimes, the deciding factor in making a decision to start a home based business is the financial incentive to be able to take tax deductions based on your home based business. These tax deductions allow you to deduct the cost of using that portion of your home that you use for operating your home based business. Further, it doesn't matter what knid of house you live in whether it is a separate house, apartment, or town house.
There are several criteria that the IRS requires that you meet to be able to take these deductions. To qualify these are some of the criteria that you must meet. You must set aside a particular space in your home that you use only for your home based business and you must use this space on a regular basis. This space must be your principle place of business and space that you deal with your clients or customers on a regular basis.
If you meet these criteria, you can take these deductions as soon as you wish and they can include you normal business expenses such as paper, pencils, phone calls. There are indirect expenses that you can deduct which might include utilities, mortgage payments, rent, housekeeping, association fees, and trash collection.
To deterine the amount of deduction that you are allowed to take, you will need to calculate the amount of the total square footage of your home and determine the percentage that you use for your home based business. You then will use that percentage of your indirect expenses for running your home as your tax deduction. There is a disadvantage to using this tax deduction of which you should be aware. When it comes time to sell your home, you will have to reduce the amount of sale of your home by the amount of depreciation that you have used for the amount of space that you have used for your home based business.
Because the rules are complicated and to avoid penalities for doing the wrong thing,it is wise to hire an accountant to help you in filing for the home based business tax deduction.
To your success.
Why do we use this expression? Why do we call a young girl a flapper? Because a young wild duck flaps its wings but cannot fly. A young girl is said to be a "flapper" when she attempts to act like a woman but is yet not old enough to be one. The term is a very old one and was formerly used to refer to girls that were too young to conceive.
